Menoufia Water: Identifying water collection points in cities and placing them on GIS maps
Eng. Rushdi El-Sayed Omar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Menoufia Drinking Water and Wastewater Company, announced the company's readiness to confront the dangers of the winter season, within the framework of the assignments of Eng. Mamdouh Raslan, Chairman of the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater, to the heads of the affiliated companies to implement proactive measures and preparations to receive the winter season, rains and floods.
He pointed out that the locations of water accumulations in the cities were identified and placed on GIS maps and handed over to the company's branches so that they could be moved to them immediately as a first step in coordination with the heads of councils and cities. All required maintenance procedures were also taken for rain drains and sewage networks in all areas at the governorate level to accommodate the amounts of rainwater and ensure their efficiency and speed of dealing with any emergency cases in the networks in coordination with all parties and purchasing modern equipment to deal with floods.
He said: Emergency teams have been formed to work in the event of rain at the company’s headquarters and its affiliated geographical branches, and they have been equipped with vehicles, equipment and mobile water suction machines. A plan has also been developed to clean rain drains in cooperation with the local units of the centers and cities, and work is being done on it continuously, as well as determining the locations of equipment in each branch according to GIS maps.
He added, the validity of the lifting stations, network lines, slopes and expulsion lines is periodically verified, a plan is developed for interoperability, water pumping is organized, and equipment and personnel are reviewed and inspected by the specialized work team from each branch, and the emergency team at the company’s headquarters is followed up.
He reviewed the company's plan regarding the detailed preparations, scenarios and procedures that can be implemented in the event of any emergency to confront heavy rains or floods if they occur during the coming winter season, in coordination with the governorate's operations room and the governorate's Crisis and Emergency Management Department.
He explained that the company's emergency team communicates via the hotline 125 with the governorate's operations to follow up on incoming reports on an ongoing basis, reduce water pumping in cases of heavy rain to relieve pressure on sewage networks, cancel vacations and rest for all operations, maintenance and laboratory officials at water stations, sewage stations, the emergency room and the auxiliary management in cooperation with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and provide all stations with the necessary equipment for operation and maintenance before the onset of winter.
The company chairman confirmed that a comprehensive proactive plan has been put in place to clean the sewage networks, sewage drains and rain filters to receive rainwater, as well as to remove dust from them to prevent rainwater from accumulating in the streets and squares, not to obstruct the movement of citizens and to avoid obstructing the movement of cars.
He said: Equipment is used from sister companies when needed, upon assignment from the engineer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater, for cooperation between companies in such matters.
He called on the branch heads to be present in the field and to be fully prepared to face the possible rains, pointing out that ready equipment is provided to pump water and disinfect all areas at the governorate level to prepare to face the rainy season in full coordination with the governorate's operations room.
